When sailing gets in your blood, there’s nothing quite like it. We could get real jobs, but where’s the fun in that? At American Sailing Tours, we’re all lifelong sailors who just can’t get enough of the sea and the salt air and we love to share our enthusiasm for sailing with everyone we meet.
Everyone is familiar with this quote on the right from Kenneth Grahame and we try to live by it on the Summer Wind. It’s a great summer job and we thank you for the opportunity to share a little bit of it with you.
Join us for a sail and you can mess about in boats too…..
“There is nothing – absolutely nothing – half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.”
Our Captain and crew meet and exceed all the requirements of the U.S. Coast Guard because your safety on the water means everything to us. The Summer Wind is equipped with the latest safety equipment.
Meet Our Crew
Cap’n Tom is an accountant and attorney in his “other life” and a lifelong sailor who also crews aboard the Tall Ship Kalmar Nyckel of Delaware. He’s a Coast Guard licensed Captain who grew up in Maine, sailing from Bar Harbor and Camden in the too brief summers. As “Skipper” of the Summer Wind, he’s responsible for all the ships systems and keeps everything ship-shape. He’s also a Red Cross certified First Responder, so he keeps the people ship-shape, too. He lives in Marlton, NJ with his wife Linda and son Sam, the First Mate.
Amanda brings more Tall Ship experience to the Summer Wind, having crewed aboard the schooners Hindu, Liberty Clipper, and Roseway; and the good sloop Clearwater. She first learned to sail in 1998 while she was a student with the Williams-Mystic Maritime Studies Program. During that semester, she spent ten days at sea studying under Ocean Classroom Foundation professors aboard the Schooner Harvey Gamage, the boat that bit her. She holds a Master’s License for vessels up to 100-tons. She loves shipboard education with young people, reef diving, and spending winter under palm trees.
Sage has been working on schooners for over 2 years and has done everything from educational sails to overnight transits down the east coast. She has worked on Schooners Soundwaters, Liberty Clipper, Liberty Star and the Woodwinds. Besides sailing, she likes ice cream, pizza and solar powered lights.
